Stevens had the favored Stratton ($3.80) totally relaxed throughout the marathon turf test, taking the lead on the second lap and then gliding away to post a 6 ½ length victory over Blue Bomber with Tally Slick third in the field of seven older horses.
Owned by Tom Metzger, Sr., and Owlcatraz Racing Stable and trained by Dan McFarlane, Stratton covered the one mile and seven-eights in 3:12.36. It was the sixth victory in 31 starts for the 6-year-old son of Pleasantly Perfect who now has earnings of $82,678.
The $61,050 Spring Futurity
Triple AAA Ranch’s favored Call Waiting ($3.60) established himself as a 2-year-old to be reckoned with by posting a 2 ¾ length victory over Senoradiablo with Rents Over Due third in the field of 10 juveniles.
Trained by Scott Rollins and ridden by Chad Lindsay, Call Waiting raced the 5 furlongs in :58.32 for his second win in as many starts. The son of Uh Oh Bango now has earnings of $42,444.
The Leaders
In winning his ninth leading rider’s title with 102 tallies, Stevens, 57, now leads all riders in number of titles. Leslie Mawing finished second with 90 wins.
Roberto Diodoro led all trainers with 79 victories for his fifth consecutive title.
Juan Pablo Silva was second with 44 wins. Silva’s Tijuana Racing Stable took home the Leading Owner’s title with 38 wins.
Simulcast races from major racetracks across the country, including Saratoga and Del Mar, will be offered for wagering throughout the summer at Turf Paradise in the air-conditioned Clubhouse and at all Off Track Betting facilities.
