Jockey Protocols
The following protocols are subject to change as progress is made with the eradication of the Coronavirus
Racing days:
- The jockey colony will be a closed group and no riders will be allowed after the start of the meet on January 4, 2021.
- A jockey will have to declare the intention to ride at Turf Paradise by no later than Dec. 26, 2020. In between Dec. 26 and Jan. 3, a rider needs to provide a negative Covid-19 test in order to be considered part of the Turf Paradise jockey colony.
- Any jockey that rides at other racing venues will not be allowed to return to the Turf Paradise jockey colony.
- Jockeys will have to provide a Negative COVID-19 test in order to be given a mount.
- Masks must be worn at all times in the jockeys’ room, paddock and post-parade. Masks may be lowered prior to entering the starting gate.
Racing days:
- No hot box, whirlpool or showers.
- A jockey engaged to ride can arrive no more than 60 minutes before the day’s mount. When done with the day’s riding assignments, a jockey must leave the jock’s room immediately.
- House silks will be utilized; no owner’s silks
- Quarter horse riders will be separated from the regular jockey colony. Any Quarter Horse rider riding in non-recognized races (match races) will be separated from the main jockey colony.
- A jockey’s temp will be taken upon arrival. This is done by the Clerk of Scales or other track personnel.
- A log will be maintained as to the time of temp check with jockey’s signature.
- If a jockey has a high temperature (100.4 or above), the jockey will not be allowed in the jockey’s room. A second test will be taken within 10 minutes to confirm temperature.
- If a jockey has a high temperature, and it is confirmed by two tests, he or she will immediately leave and must not return until a negative COVID-19 test is produced or after a 14-day quarantine period.
- Only the Top 4 official finishing jockeys will weigh out
