Turf Paradise Welcomes Local Fans To Watch Racing History

Turf Paradise and its 55 OTB sites are getting ready to welcome local horse racing fans who may yet see another Triple Crown winner now that Justify has won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. The third race in the crown, The Belmont Stakes, takes place June 9th at Belmont Park in New York. Turf Paradise will be hosting local fans for a Belmont watching party.

Local fans and trainers are well acquainted with Justify’s trainer Bob Baffert, who was raised in Nogales and is a graduate of the University of Arizona’s Racetrack Industry Program. Baffert got his start racing quarter horses in Southern Arizona, winning his first race at Rillito Park in Tucson. He would later switch to thoroughbreds several of which have raced in stakes races at Turf Paradise.

The last Triple Crown Winner was Baffert trained American Pharoah in 2015. Prior to that the last horse to have that honor was Affirmed in 1978.
In 2015, more than 2000 fans gathered at Turf Paradise for a Belmont watching party as horse racing history was made.

Turf Paradise General Manager Vince Francia said, “American Pharoah’s victory brought renewed interest into the sport of horse racing and Justify may do the same. A Triple Crown victory provides an opportunity to introduce the sport to a new generation of fans.”
Turf Paradise is hosting a Belmont watching party Saturday June 9th where fans can be part of a potential history-making sport’s event.

At Turf Paradise doors will open at 8:00 am on Belmont Day Saturday.
The first Belmont simulcast is at 8:35 am.
The Belmont Stakes is scheduled for 3:50 pm.

The air-conditioned Clubhouse, Turf Club and Players’ Club will be open at Turf Paradise. The Grandstand will be closed. General Admission to the Clubhouse is free and it will offer a limited A La Carte menu. The Turf Club and Player’s Club will offer an all-day buffet for $30 per person. Click here for details.

Turf Paradise opened its doors in 1956 and is Arizona’s first sports franchise. Turf’s racing season resumes this fall as the track celebrates its 63th anniversary.
