The 1-9 favorite, multiple stakes winner Fortified Effort ($2.10), did not disappoint with Scott Stevens aboard, although a fast-closing Beat the Heat may have caused the chalk players an anxious moment, since the margin of victory was only a half-length. Fortified Effort’s stablemate, Loud N Proud finished third in a field of four reduced by scratches.
