Turf Paradise Holds Live Racing Friday And Saturday After Thanksgiving 
All Day Happy Hours And More As Thanksgiving Tradition Returns   
 
Affordable family fun returns to Phoenix as Turf Paradise holds live racing the Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving. This tradition goes back decades and resumes November 29th and 30th.  Whether you are looking for a place to take the family, take a break from holiday shopping, or just take in a day at the races, Turf Paradise has you covered. 

Gates will open at 10am and the first post time for live racing will be 12:40pm. General admission is just $5 and includes entry to the Grandstand and to the Stadium Club (Clubhouse). General parking is free as is Grandstand seating. Seating in the Stadium Club  is $5 per person.

The Stadium Club will be offering half-price appetizers all day, Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.  Happy hour will also be two days long with 25% off drink specials at the Stadium Club, the Grandstand and the track apron bars. Turf is offering an expanded menu this season including a new pizza parlor, Frau Diablo’s Corner which is offering $1 off all pizzas all day long November 29th and 30th.

In addition to a full card of live local horseracing Friday and Saturday, Friday’s featured race is the $40,000 Wayne Brasher Memorial.

While inflation has driven up the price of taking a family of four to most sporting events well beyond $200, Turf Paradise continues to deliver affordable family fun, especially for those with visitors in town. And it sure beats arguing politics with your brother-in-law over a plate of leftovers.

Turf Paradise, located at 19th Ave and Bell Road, first opened its doors in 1956. It has maintained Arizona’s horse racing tradition for nearly seven decades and is Arizona’s FIRST sports franchise.

Live racing returns to Turf Paradise on Monday November 11th. Following successful track inspections conducted by the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA), the Arizona Racing Commission notified Turf Paradise that all live racing surfaces meet standards.

The two stakes races that had been scheduled for November 2nd have been rescheduled. The $40,000 Jeff and Jack Coady Sr. Handicap will be run on Wednesday November 13th. The $40,000 Hank Mills Jr. Handicap will be run on Thursday November 14th.
 
The season will run through May 3rd. This year’s schedule includes Saturday racing, including the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
 
A new team is now supervising the Turf’s food and beverage operations. The Clubhouse restaurant (the Stadium Club) and Turf’s concession stands are offering an expanded menu. There is also a pizza parlor in the Clubhouse, Frau Diablo’s Corner. The new team is headed by Chef Tom D’Ambrosio and Kyle Hollenbeck,  Arizona natives best known as the team behind Aioli Gourmet Burgers.

Following a joint meeting between Turf Paradise and the Arizona Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA) live racing is expected to begin at Turf Paradise on Monday November 11th as track maintenance issues, that delayed opening day November 2nd, are expected to be resolved.
 
An inspection team from the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) is expected to arrive at Turf Paradise on Monday afternoon. Both Turf Paradise management and the Arizona HBPA anticipate having the track ready for testing Tuesday morning with training on the main track starting as soon as Wednesday morning. Training would continue through Sunday with live racing starting on Monday November 11th (Veterans’ Day).
 
There will be live racing the first week from Monday through Thursday. Gates will open at 10am and the first post time for live racing will be 12:40om. In order to address some final track maintenance issues, there will be no live racing at Turf Paradise on Saturday November second. However, the facility will be open on November second, including the Clubhouse, so that fans can watch, wager, and win on the Breeder’s Cup simulcast races. Admission and seating on November 2nd is free.
