Michael
Chamberlain, 40, is in his
second season as the track
announcer at Turf Paradise.
Chamberlain should not be a
new voice to Phoenix fans,
having worked as a color
commentator on Phoenix
Roadrunners hockey games in
the mid-90s and as a
reporter at Skyview-Metro
Networks. Chamberlain left
Phoenix for Houston and
worked as the track
announcer at Sam Houston
Race Park for twelve years.
During his time in Houston,
he attended three All-Star
Announcer
Days at the Breeders’ Cup
World Thoroughbred
Championships (2002 at
Arlington Park, 2004 at Lone
Star Park, and 2006 at
Churchill Downs). Working at
Turf Paradise is a
homecoming for Chamberlain,
as his family resides in the
Valley and he graduated from
Arizona State University in
1994 with a degree in
broadcasting.
Chamberlain learned his
announcing craft from the
late Luke Kruytbosch, who
helped him get his racing
career started in the late
1990s. In addition to his
announcing at Turf Paradise,
Chamberlain also writes his
own horse racing blog,
“They Are Off”, which can be
found on the internet at
theyareoff.blogspot.com. |
